Description

Done for the Dark Shadows Competition.

I used every image given in the asset pack for this. The center image however was something i drew by hand in a sketchbook from a picture of Depp as Barnabas. I didnt like how the photo was, so I drew it the way i wanted it and then put it in the image. I put four images of barnabas instead of just one. done the right way with the right composition, more is better.

Vampires are messy eaters, so I added this fact to the image. Red blood everywhere mixed in with a stark black ink (in an inking phase currently)

i really liked having his cane turn into a drip down and form a splatter effect for the logo. I feel incorporating the logo into the overall design is necessary in most images, otherwise it breaks the mood or effect.

Also added some digital copies of my hand and finger prints, mixed with splatter brushes, into the piece. makes me feel like i have a part of me in it, and the hand helped ground the image. i also had the thought in my head that maybe one of his victims was still alive when he left, and tried to draw a portrait of barnabas to let people know who killed him....drawn in his own blood.

I want for a more graphic style because its how i role. i have made a portrait of myself like this, and its something i would have hanging on my wall...lets hope Barnabas has the same taste in portraits as i do after sleeping all that time.

Done in PSCS4.

Shivers, if this isn't an interesting take on Barnabas Collins in his many poses. Your commentary on how you approached the subject matter and your methods was enlightening. I would never have known how you had created this, otherwise. The center image is both striking and frightening. Nice touch with the elongated cane morphing into a bloody run, then forming a splattered pool about the logo. The additional touches--the hand and fingerprints--do help personalize these images of Depp. It is something different and reminds us what vampires are all about. Bravo for an original approach.
